Morning Coffee III – Top 6 Alternative Music Career Sites for Singers
There is a wonderful habit of getting a cup of coffee (or beverage of your choice) and scrolling through the latest news and updates in the singer world before getting started with your day. Since I love coffee, I call it my Morning Coffee time. It’s pretty simple. I have a list of bookmarks on my browser that I click down daily to make sure I don’t miss anything big happening in the field of singing. I look at all types of singing now – though I confess, I used to only look at the classical blogs, websites, and thought leaders. I hope you’ll put SantoshaVoiceGroup.com onto your Morning Coffee time list right at the top. Meanwhile, I’ll give you my favs in this several part series. If you find some that you love, please let us all know – I’m constantly updating this list. I hope you will too.
Today I’m reviewing and listing my: Top Six Alternative Music Career Sites for Singers
1. AIRS: Advancing Interdisciplinary Research in Singing
This group is incredible. They research why singing matters and how to use it in the world to make a difference. The news, books, events, groups, articles on this site will blow your mind!
2. Music for Healing and Transition Program
Directly from their website: “trains and certifies musicians in the art and science of providing therapeutic music for body, mind, and spirit. Why? Music can decrease pain, lower blood pressure, reduce anxiety, stabilize heart rate, and more. See the research.” Let me just say that I have not done the training. I’m including this here because the research is clear that music can be used as medicine and this field is growing every day. Use this site as a launch pad to find out what else is out there in this vein.
3. Musicians Without Borders
This group is active and working daily to bring music to the aid of difficult situations and to use music to empower social change. Take a look.

4. Sing for Hope
This is like an “artists peace corps” in that they get people singing. Singing for Hope uses the creative arts for healing, learning, and social cohesion. Check them out too.

5. Musicians for Peace and Disarmament
This group uses music to encourage and support Peace and Disarmament. You may want to get involved with them or you may see how musicians can use their music to help others in this particular way. Could you do something like this?

6. Resonant Bodies Festival
Right now, there is a three-part video series that helps singers learn how to record themselves. The real reason for the site is to promote contemporary music. I don’t know if they are still up and running since the site is a bit old, maybe on haitus since Covid? Still the videos are nice and you can see another possibility for what you are doing. Take a chance and contact the people there to see if they are still working on the festival and when they expect the next one to be?
